Sick Folk Miraculously Healed!

Yes, it’s true. Thanks to the miracle of ancient Chinese medicine, my cat is not only alive but is her usual uppity and annoying self. I missed her so! Long story short: Zub turned out to have one dead kidney and stones in the other that were partially blocking it’s outbound tube and my western vet said ‘Sorry, there’s not much we can do.’ Much agonized weeping ensued. Eastern vet said ‘Here this works’ and gave Zub some herbs called “Passwan” to help dissolve the stones. 24 hours later Zub was eating on her own for the first time in 3+ weeks. Miracle! Yay! Much joyful weeping and dancing about ensued.

My L.A. brother found a hematologist that he could actually talk to and who actually answered his questions. He will be allowed to drive, ride in airplanes, use power tools and ride his bike; the four activities that make up most of his life. He is in a much better mood and healing from the clots and pleurasy. Hurrah!

I want this T-shirt

From the L.A. Times:

‘U.S. analysts also erred in their analysis of high-altitude satellite photos, repeatedly confusing Scud missile storage places with the short, half-cylindrical sheds typically used to house poultry in Iraq. As a result, as the war neared, two teams of U.N. weapons experts acting on U.S. intelligence scrambled to search chicken coops for missiles that were not there.

“We inspected a lot of chicken farms,” said a former inspector who asked not to be identified because he now works with U.S. intelligence. His U.N. team printed “Ballistic Chicken Farm Inspection Team” on 20 gray T-shirts to mark the futile hunt.’

Icons and GUIs

I shepard the UI of a web app. I inherited an app with a lot of data-overload, and I often argue to leave less important data points out and condense what is left. It’s all about strategic weeding and obvious signage. Therefore, I’m creating a set of icons this week. I seek icon inspiration.

While searching for this link that bug read on one of his RSS feeds, I also stumbled onto GUIdebook, which is a well-ordered museum of past and present GUI OSes. It includes screen shots, icons, sounds and splash screens, arranged so a reader can view the evolution of a particular OS or compare different ones.
